13 Tips To Achieve Your Goals and Life Success

To get through life we have to achieve some objective or another to make things better for ourselves; lose weight, get that college degree, land that high paying dream job or promotion, buy that house or start a successful business. But, as we all know life can be tough, frustrating and downright horrifying at times. You’ll no doubt experience obstacles be it with your current situation or people in your life. Another obstacle you’ll face, and perhaps the most difficult, will be with yourself. You may suffer from depression, anxiety, health issues, a drug or alcohol problem or simple laziness. You can overcome them if you are willing.  I sincerely hope this blog post will help you overcome what’s holding you back so you can achieve great success in life.

Here are 13 tips to achieve your goals and success in life:

1.) Healthy Diet & Exercise

I put eating right and exercise at the top of the list because everything starts from there. If you’re not healthy then nothing else on this list matters because if you don’t have your health, you will have an even more difficult time achieving your life goals or not at all. You probably won’t be able to help yourself or anyone else.

I won’t go into the specifics of what constitutes a healthy diet in this blog post but suffice it to say that you should cut down on the fatty and salty foods as well as processed foods, especially fast food. The internet is full of helpful articles and video on healthy eating and dieting tips. You will do well to take the time to learn more about eating a healthy diet.

Regular exercise is important for life success because not only does it go hand in hand with eating right, it can also improve your mood. Research has shown that regular exercise will have a positive effect on minimizing depression, anxiety and ADHD. You will also notice that you will sleep better and have improved memory.

When I talk about regular exercise, I don’t necessarily mean hitting the gym for hours and hours every day. Your exercise routine can be as simple as a 20 min. walk. Just be sure to do it regularly and it will have a positive impact on your health and mood.

2.) Believe In Yourself

Sometimes if you don’t believe in yourself, who else will? You may have had a tough childhood. Your current situation might be absolutely dreadful and your life might have been a series of failures, but be that as it may, it doesn’t mean it will stay that way. One example that comes to mind as I write this is the story of Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). His life was one failure and disappointment after another till he started the fast food chicken franchise at which point he was a success. He was a success because he did what he had to do and he believed in himself.

Even if there is a part of your mind that is screaming at you, telling you you’re a failure, tell it to SHUT UP! Know that others have made the same or worse mistakes than you, doubted themselves, and still succeeded anyway. Visualize yourself as a success, tell yourself that YOU CAN DO IT and believe it anyway despite the self-doubt or naysayers in your life.

3.) Learn/Study/Research

Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you have the more powerful you become. There is so much information out there. There are countless books, articles and videos out there where you can learn just about anything you can imagine. With your local library (or bookstore), and/or the internet you can get the equivalent of a college education in a subject of your choosing. If you’re not the reading type (but I’d assume you are if you’re reading this blog post) YouTube has a wealth of videos on just about any subject you like – niche subjects, stuff you can’t find on TV.

Why not spend your time learning about things in relation to your goals? If you are seeking a job or starting your own business, and you are afraid you might not have the certain skill sets necessary, why not invest you time reading books, articles and videos along those lines? While you’re at it, you can learn about healthy eating and dieting tips and exercise, like I mentioned before AND while you’re at it, why not learn about money and investing – so when you achieve financial success, you’ll know how to handle your money.

4.) Think Out Of The Box

Thinking out of the box is kind of an overused term but basically it is another way of saying Creative Thinking. Coming up with creative solutions to your problems can often make all the difference you need in life. It is easier said than done, I know. I will make a separate blog post on ways to think out of the box at a later time, but if you can’t wait till then the web has numerous articles, videos and what-not about how to think out of the box.

Perhaps the solution to your situation is some small thing you need to change that you are overlooking? Perhaps it’s a solution you are too afraid to face or something else entirely? You never know, but you need to get your creative/out of the box juices flowing to come up with a unique solution. When you learn to think creatively about life or whatever issue you are facing, life becomes easier.

5.) Network & Socialize

No man, or woman, is an island. Everybody needs help sometimes. Nobody can think of everything. You need to meet people. Attending social situations, seminars, conferences, etc. you will gain new information and get out of your comfort zone and meet people of many different nationalities and backgrounds. You may meet someone who will be able to help you with resources and knowledge you never thought possible before. Also, you will find someone else who has gone through what you are going through (no matter how bad it is), overcame those obstacles and achieved success.

I often like to chat with new people because I appreciate other points a view. There has been a number of times in my life that when meeting new people they will help me to see a situation from a different angle I never considered. I would encourage you to do the same. You never know that in meeting people, sharing your knowledge will help them in some way. If nothing else you might make a new friend.

6.) Goal Setting

If you don’t know where you are going, how will you ever know if you got there? Having goals is how you know if you got there or are getting there. You need to have your major goal – landing that job, starting that business, buying that house, etc. but you also need minor goals that will help you arrive at the major goal.

All of your minor goals should serve one purpose and one purpose only; reaching your major goal or objective in some way. Minor goals need to be specific, achievable and with a deadline for completion. These smaller goals should be written down and you should look at them every day or at least once or twice a week. Doing this will help you stay focused, and completing these minor goals will give you a sense of accomplishment which will help boost your self-esteem and morale. Better self-esteem will put you in a better mood.

7.) Self-care

You might think self-care is the same thing that I spoke on earlier about healthy eating and exercise, but no, that’s not what I mean. Self-care means doing something for yourself so you can keep from getting burned out or stressed out and help you get back to goals for life success later on. What is self-care for you may not be self-care for someone else. Only you know what that is.

For some, self-care can mean taking a vacation or visiting a place they feel happiest at, such as a beach or maybe a nice relaxing massage is your thing. Maybe your idea of self-care is walking the dog, or meditation or reading a good book. Self-care can also be alone time, away from work, away from friends, family, the cell phone and just zoning out to help relieve stress. Or, self-care can be time with friends and family. Anyhow, Like I said, only you know what your self-care remedy is. Be sure to spend some time every month doing it and then get back work or whatever it is you need to do.

8.) Positive Affirmations

An affirmation is the act of making a positive declaration of something to be true. Our own negative thoughts and beliefs can be the greatest hindrance in our life more than anything else many cases. Positive affirmations are powerful and very helpful in combating our negative thoughts and beliefs.

I talked earlier about believing in yourself and positive affirmations can certainly help with that. You should always have a few positive, success-oriented affirmations that you repeat daily to yourself, such as “I am smart, I am successful and I am healthy.” Or, perhaps “I am happy, my life is fulfilled, I have great financial success and all my needs in life are met.” I’ll do a separate blog post on specific affirmations you can use, but in the meantime you can use Google to pull up some great affirmations you can use. You can use or modify them as you see fit. But, whatever your positive affirmation is, be sure to repeat it to yourself a few times a day and do so quietly (you don’t want others to hear and know of your affirmations). It is also a good idea to repeat your positive affirmation a few times before falling asleep as well.

9.) Eliminate Distractions

In today’s environment, it is all too easy to get distracted with one thing or another. We’ve all been there. Something needs to get done but instead your attention get drawn away because of some stupid non-sense. If I had a dollar for every time I got distracted because of the TV, social media, someone coming by my office to talk or simply my gazing out the window I’d be a millionaire by now. And let’s not forget the smart phone with its endless notifications demanding attention and all that’s contained within the phone that will suck time away from an important task for hours.

If you want to succeed in life you must learn to FOCUS! Focusing mainly involves staying on target (your goals and objectives) and eliminating distractions as much as you can. So turn off the TV, silence the phone, shut the door to your office, go over your goals or task list for that day and stay focused on what needs to be done. Staying focused is critically important, but you should remember that every once in a while you should take a break from your work so you don’t get mentally drained and the back to the task at hand.

10.) Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

I saw a meme recently that read “Your Comfort Zone Will Kill You!” What is meant by comfort zone is your daily routines, habits and current situation you setup for yourself to eliminate stress and conflict for you – your “safe space.” Many people have been guilty of not wanting to rock the boat, just go along to get along, don’t stick your neck out and everything will be fine type mentality. The problem with this mentality and behavior is that you will get too complacent doing this. Nothing will change.

You see, when don’t push the envelope for yourself and you don’t learn new things, you don’t meet new people, you don’t challenge yourself and continue to retreat into your safe space, then whatever is going wrong in your life will continue and whatever good you want to see happen likely never will. It’s like I heard a very wealthy man say during a seminar I attended once; “If you always do what you always done then you will always get what you always got.”

11.) Stay Away From The Haters

Nothing can kill your joy and aspirations in life faster than the haters in your life. Maybe it is a negative co-worker or relative who always nag about everything and tell you nothing is going to work no matter what you do. Maybe it is a fake friend who always laughs at every idea of yours and tells you how stupid you are for thinking of such nonsense. These people never give you any words of encouragement and they always have something negative say.

It could be any number of reasons why such people are like that but 9 times out of 10 they are jealous of you on some level and they secretly don’t want to see you succeed. It took me a long time to realize it, but one day it finally dawned on me that some people will always be jealous of me and not want to see me successful. An important question for you to ask yourself is who in your life doesn’t want to see you shine? Once you know that, stay away from those psychic vampires like the plague.

12.) Keep Your Mouth Shut

Lose lips sink ships was an old saying from back in the day. I recently saw a meme that said, “Two rules for success, 1) Never reveal everything you know.” I also saw a TED talk video in which the speaker advocated that you should Never tell people your goals and in fact, not telling people your goals will increase your chances of achieving them and it is backed up by research. Furthermore, the research indicates that when you tell people your goals or aspirations the mind subconsciously believes you’ve done it already and you will tend to get lazy and quite before completing the task.

Also, when you tell people your goals and dreams, they sometimes will put hateful, negative energy on you because, like I said earlier, there are haters out there. You may not know who these haters are at the time you run your mouth about that great new business you want to start or whatever it is you’re trying to do. Telling others of about your goals and objectives will sometimes cause you to jinx yourself.

Lastly, IF, God forbid, you don’ accomplish your goals, at least you won’t feel stupid for having told everyone about what you said you’re were going to do that you never did. If you’re always telling people about how you’re going to do this, and you’re gonna do that and then never do it, you will lose credibility and they will look at you as someone whose all talk and not much else.

13.) DO. IT. NOW!

DO IT NOW! DO IT NOW! DO IT NOW! Procrastination can be the biggest killer of gaining success in life than almost anything. If you don’t Do It Now then later may become Never!

Don’t overthink it. Don’t succumb to your fears because allot of things in life are scary at first after all. Don’t second guess yourself and for God’s sake, don’t listen to the haters. Sometimes there is never a right time to begin, and you can only think so much about a matter. Sometimes you just have to face your fears and dive in. Most of the time it is better to have tried and failed than never having tried at all. Remember that.

And there you have it, my 13 tips for reaching goals and life success. Use all of them or some of them that you really think are helpful as you see fit. Feel free to let me know if the comments any useful tips you have to overcome obstacles in life and reach success.
